SEATTLE, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Huxley Medical, a commercial-stage medical technology firm focused on streamlining detection of sleep and heart disorders, announced the presentation of three scientific abstracts using its SANSA home sleep apnea test at SLEEP 2025, the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS), held June 8-11 in Seattle, Washington. These investigational data highlight SANSA’s ability to provide valuable clinical insights across a range of patient populations.
Highlights from the presented data include:
- Central sleep apnea validation: Promising SANSA diagnostic performance – Researchers developed and tested a new algorithm to detect central sleep apnea (CSA) using SANSA and compared results to in-lab polysomnography. In a study of 326 patients, SANSA demonstrated strong performance, meeting or exceeding published benchmarks for other home sleep apnea tests.*
- Two studies exploring the link between sleep apnea and arrhythmia using a unified workflow
- Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and arrhythmia burden were simultaneously assessed in a population of 153 patients suspected of SDB wearing SANSA overnight.** Notably, one in three (33%) patients had a clinically meaningful arrhythmia, with one in five (20%) not previously recognized in their medical history. These findings highlight the importance of evaluating arrhythmias and other common cardiac comorbidities during home sleep testing.
- A second study deployed SANSA in 30 patients indicated for Holter monitoring. Overall, two-thirds of Holter patients had SDB with the highest prevalence (86%) observed in those with atrial fibrillation (AF), reinforcing the strong connection between AF and sleep apnea.
The studies were conducted in partnership with a team of investigators across multiple institutions including Penn State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Mayo Clinic, Emory University, the University of Michigan, Atrium Health, Wake Forest University, and Duke University, and build on a growing body of evidence supporting SANSA’s clinical and operational value. “These data support SANSA’s promise as a versatile remote diagnostic tool. The ability to characterize SDB as obstructive or central and relate it to commonly comorbid cardiac issues is something we’ve rarely been able to do outside of in-lab PSG studies, despite years of evidence linking these conditions,” said Dr. Rami Khayat, MD, Division Chief of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine and Director of Sleep Services at Penn State. “Ultimately this could help us diagnose, stratify, and manage patients more efficiently.”
