SEVEN out of 11 Covid-19 clusters detected in the country as of noon yesterday have been linked to workplaces.
These workplace clusters are the Jalan Playar, Sri Suria, Bukit Semenyih construction site and Bukit Angkat clusters in Selangor; the Jalan Desa construction site and Jalan Raja clusters in Kuala Lumpur (KL), and the Parit Jamil cluster in Johor.
The remaining non-workplace clusters are district clusters, namely the Tombovo cluster in Sabah; the Langit Selatan cluster in Pahang; the Bah Sayap cluster in Sarawak; and the Mengkuang cluster in Terengganu.
Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of yesterday, the Health Ministry reported a total of 548 clusters in the country, including the 11 new ones.
“The total number of active clusters in the country that are being monitored currently stands at 242,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, the country recorded 2,027 new Covid-19 positive cases yesterday, involving 2,011 local transmissions and 16 imported cases.
Selangor has topped the chart again with a total of 509 new cases, of which 338 were detected from the existing clusters in the state, and through active contact tracing activities.
This was followed by Johor which reported a total of 428 cases and Sabah (383).
A total of 111 cases reported yesterday were from the prison and immigration detention depot clusters namely, the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster, Tembok Gajah cluster, Tembok Choh cluster and the Kepayan Prison cluster.
Other states which have recorded new cases include KL with 313 cases, Negri Sembilan (98), Penang (60), Kedah (47), Kelantan (42), Labuan (37), Perak (25), Pahang (25) and Melaka (21).
Putrajaya, Terengganu and Sarawak recorded 13 cases each, while Perlis did not have any new cases yesterday.
The new cases have brought the country’s overall total to 122,845 where 22,887 are active cases that are being treated at health facilities nationwide.
Among the active cases yesterday, 123 were placed in the intensive care units, with 52 of them requiring respiratory aid.
A total of 1,221 Covid-19 patients have been discharged, increasing the total recovered cases in the country to 99,449 which equals 81%.
There were eight new deaths in the country yesterday, of which five were in Sabah, two in Selangor and one in Perak.
This has brought the overall Covid-19 death toll to 509.
The deceased was between the ages of 52 and 78, with four of them having had critical illnesses.
