YAYASAN Al-Tarmidhi and the Al-Bukhary Mosque have raised RM210,000 of funds through a Ramadhan charity programme for those in need in the Klang Valley.
Besides the funds, the programme had also collected contributions of raw food and cooking supplies such as rice and cooking oil to provide iftar meals to the Klang Valley community, particularly the underprivileged, refugees and frontliners.
Al-Bukhary Mosque’s Imam Syeed Muhammad Lutfi Wan Yusuf said this is the second year that the mosque and Yayasan Al-Tarmidhi collaborated in a Ramadhan charity programme, where iftar meals are being prepared daily at the mosque.
“It has become an annual tradition for Yayasan Al-Tarmidhi and the mosque to provide iftar meals, which includes bubur lambuk, to the public who participated in the congregational Maghrib prayer here at the mosque.
“However, since the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic last year, we can no longer hold congregational prayers and iftar at the mosque, hence, we started to distribute the meals to the nearby communities,” he said.
The recipients include the poor community in low-cost flats (People’s Housing Programme or PPR), refugees and frontliners.
Muhammad Lutfi added that Yayasan Al-Tarmidhi and the mosque are targeting to distribute 1,000 packs of bubur lambuk and 1,000 rice-based meals per day throughout Ramadhan, just like in the previous year.
“These meals are prepared early in the morning by our team of staff which consist of 12 people including seven cooks. We would start packing the meals around 10am with the help of volunteers from Puncak Semangat Group of Cos.
“Our rice-based menu changes and rotates daily with dishes like nasi lemak with fried chicken, biryani rice with lamb curry and tomato rice with chicken korma,” he added.
Among the companies which have contributed to the programme included Commerce Dot Com Sdn Bhd, Padiberas Nasional Bhd, Gas Malaysia Bhd, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, MMC Corp Bhd, Tradewinds Plantation Bhd, Malakoff Corp Bhd and DRB-Hicom Bhd.
